ID help needed - sleeve badge
06. Sep 2006 at 09:48

Hello folks,

Can anyone reading this forum identify the sleeve badge in this photo? It's on the sleeve of a Finnish infantry lieutenant's uniform. Obviously a unit symbol but which unit? The officer's belt (rähinäremmi) that goes with the uniform has a symbol saying "Kannas" (see next post) so probably this is one of the regiments fighting on Karelian Isthmus.

Thanks!

-J.

Well, no hints from anyone so far - does anyone have Juha Tetri's book on Finnish army badges & insignia? Anyone know where to find the book?

OK, thanks for your help! Apparently this officer (the assumed war-time owner of the uniform) did serve in some sort of a fortification unit for a while, being "on assignment". Most of the Continuation War he spent in the 58th Infantry Regiment (JR 58) on Karelian Isthmus. Probably the badge is related to either of them.

Thanks again!

The "rähinäremmimerkki" carried by the officer whose uniform this is was indentified to be that of III/JR 58; probably the sleeve bagde is for the same. Anyone have data on this?
